Bactaslyde Faq's

Bactaslyde®: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

1. How Bactaslyde® works?

  • A. BACTASLYDE® allows microbes viz. bacteria, yeasts and fungi to actually grow by providing special nutrition. With the help of this nutrition bacteria multiply on BACTASLYDE® in the form of colonies, which can be seen with the naked eye. One bacterial cell becomes two within 15-20 minutes. Therefore after 24 hours we are able to see colonies which may comprises of millions of bacterial cells.

2. Which microbes can be detected using Bactaslyde®?

  • A. There are different types of BACTASLYDE® for different types of bacteria. These BACTASLYDE® can detect yeast, fungi, Pseudomonas species, Sulphate reducing bacteria (SRB), E. coli and Salmonella, Vibrio and Staphylococcus aureus.

3. How much time is required to get the results and what should be the temperature at the time of incubation of BACTASLYDE®?

  • The preparation time is zero. BACTASLYDE® is a presterilized readymade device containing dual media which allows you to do 2 tests at one so the time for actual test is 25 seconds. An incubator as such is not required. BACTASLYDE® has to be kept for 24 hours after test in warm place at ambient temperature.

3. How much sample is needed for detection of bacteria/ microorganism?

  • There is no need to quantify/measure the sample. Just take the test sample in tube provided (30 ml). Dip BACTASLYDE® in it, wait for 25 seconds and remove it. If test sample is solid just touch BACTASLYDE® surface to it for 25 seconds. So in both cases sample required is very less.

4. What type of samples can be checked using BACTASLYDE®?

  • Practically any type of sample : Liquid samples and solid samples

5. Do I need to dispose BACTASLYDE® after test?

  • Bacteria are harmful. So, yes disposal of BACTASLYDE® is important after using it if test is positive (bacterial growth on the surface of BACTASLYDE®).

6. How to dispose BACTASLYDE®?

  • Dispose it using pressure cooker or autoclave. If autoclave is not available any disinfectant like Dettol, Savlon etc. can be used.

7. What is the shelf life/ expiry of BACTASLYDE®?

  • BACTASLYDE® for Yeast & fungi, Pseudomonas, E.coli and Salmonella : Six months Sulphate Reducing Bacteria: Eight months

8. Is it possible to count number of Bacteria/microorganisms in test sample?

  • The results in the density chart give the cfu/ml.

Cheknsee Faq's..!!

Cheknsee®: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

What is Cheknsee®?

Cheknsee® is an easy-to-use water potability test kit. Water contaminated with bacteria is a major cause of water-borne disease in humans. Enteric diseases like diarrhea, dysentery, typhoid, cholera etc. are caused by bacteria. Cheknsee® detects the coliform group of bacteria especially E.coli in water and indicates whether water is drinkable or not. National and international standards for drinking water quality is “zero” coliforms in 100 ml of drinking water. Also World Health Organization Guidelines for drinking water quality state that as an indicator organism E. coli provides conclusive evidence of faecal contamination and should not be present in water meant for human consumption.

What are the two pouches in Cheknsee® pack?

  • Two pouches in Cheknsee® pack contain nutrient media. This nutrient media is essential for the growth of bacteria especially coliforms present in water.

How to use Cheknsee®?

  • Cut open both the pouches carefully Pour the contents of both pouches into the bottle provided Pour water upto the red arrow mark Keep in a warm place for 18 to 24 hours Then observe the colour of liquid in bottle

How  to interpret the results?

  • If colour of water in bottle changes to yellow from violet, water is not potable and if colour is still violet then water is potable.

Where I can use Cheknsee®?

  • As Cheknsee® detects water potablity, it has wide applications. Cheknsee® tests water from all kind of sorces viz. taps, filters, purifiers, coolers, storage tanks, rivers, ponds, etc. This extremely simple and convenient test can be carried out anywhere i.e. homes, offices, factories, shops, banks, hospitals, hotels, schools, etc.

AlgroSee Faq's

AlgroSee®: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

 What is AlgroSee®?

  • AlgroSee® is testing equipment specially designed for detection of algae before its growth. The medium used in AlgroSee has been specially formulated for the growth of a wide variety of Algae species viz, green, bluegreen, brown, red etc. It contains neutralizing compounds, which would nullify the effect of any inhibitor in the test sample. Hence instances of false positive results are greatly reduced.

 What is Algae?

  • Algae are a type of living thing that usually lives in really wet environments, like the cooling towers. They are a little bit like plants. They take energy from the sun and use it to make food, just like plants do!

Why do I need to check algae in cooling water?

  • Algae, plant like microorganisms, are prolific invaders of the open exposed parts of cooling systems such as the tower & the pond areas. They will grow rapidly if conditions are right and only require light; CO2 & water to synthesize their growth. Algae are often visible as green, felt-like mats in internal sections of cooling towers that are wet and accessible to sunlight.
  • Algal growth is extremely unsightly and will reduce the efficiency of the cooling tower as a heat exchanger. Loosened deposits will block & foul pipe work & other heat exchange surfaces. The dead cells contribute to the formation of the complex organic material “Humus”which supports the growth of other microorganisms particularly the anaerobic types.
  • Filamentous and capsulated colonial algae coat splash packing thus interfering with the formation of droplets, which aid intimate contact of water and air. Algal growth prevents rainwater from wetting film packing and forming thin films which are Algae also secrete a mucilaginous sheath much like the slime layer in bacteria. The mucilage of the blue-green algae, in particular is associated with a peculiar form of movement called gliding that is exhibited when the organism is in contact with a firm surface. These sticky secretions may contribute significantly to complications in cooling systems such as clogged screens and fouled heat exchangers.
  • Many algae produce within their cells malodorous oils and poisonous cyclic alcohols these are released when the organisms die, and may cause foul odors.

How AlgroSee® works?

  • Just cut open media pouch and empty contents into the tube provided. Now add water sample to be tested upto red arrow mark. Place the tube on the Energy source. Observe the colour of the tube every day, for 4 days.

What is the shelf life/ expiry of AlgroSee®?

  • The shelf life of AlgroSee® is 6 months.

How much time is required to get the results?

  • Observe the colour of the tube every day, for 4 days.

How to interpret the results?

  • The result depends on the number of days taken to develop a green colour in the tube.

If greenish color is seen On Day 1, then there is heavy potential of algal growth. If greening is seen On Day 2, then there is moderate possibility of algal growth. If greening is seen On Day 3, then there is possibility of algal growth. If greening is seen On Day 4, then there is negligible possibility of algal growth. If even after 4 days, there is no greening in the tube, then there is a possibility that Algae may be absent in the sample.
